Companies House have announced a temporary extension to some filing deadlines.
Back in March 2020, the Government had announced that Companies could apply for an extended filing deadline. Now, these deadlines are automatic.
Here are the most frequently asked questions on the changes.
The temporary deadline extension effects accounts, confirmation statements, company changes and mortgage charges.
Private companies and LLPs now have 12 months to file their accounts with Companies House. This is a temporary extension of 3 months from the normal filing deadline of 9 months after the year end.
Public Limited Companies (PLCs) now need to file within 9 months. Previously the due date was 6 months after the year end.
For example a private limited company with an accounting year end of 31st March 2020 will now need to file their accounts by 31st March 2021. The normal due date was 31st December 2020.
Yes, but it only effects businesses which have a normal filing deadline between 27 June 2020 and 5 April 2021.
Below are some examples of how it effects different companies. It is based on a private Limited company with a normal filing deadline of 9 months:
Year-End 31/12/2019 – Due 30/09/2020 – Extended to 31/12/2020
Year-End 31/01/2020 – Due 31/10/2020 – Extended to 31/01/2021
Year-End 29/02/2020 – Due 30/11/2020 – Extended to 28/02/2021
Year-End 31/03/2020 – Due 31/12/2020 – Extended to 31/03/2021
Year-End 30/04/2020 – Due 31/01/2021 – Extended to 30/04/2021
Year-End 31/05/2020 – Due 28/02/2021 – Extended to 31/05/2021
Year-End 30/06/2020 – Due 31/03/2021 – Extended to 30/06/2021
Year-End 31/07/2020 – Due 30/04/2021 – No extension as after 5th April 2021
Year-End 31/08/2020 – Due 31/05/2021 – No extension as after 5th April 2021
The filing deadline for the confirmation statement was previously 14 days.
This has been extended to 42 days on a temporary basis.
This is an automatic extension. The extended filing deadline will not apply for filings after 6th April 2021.
To check your filing deadlines you can use the Companies House Service. There is no login required to view Companies House data.
Simply find your company using the search box. Then on the overview page it will state your accounts filing deadline on the left. To the right will be the confirmation statement filing deadline.
NOTE: Companies House are updating the filing deadlines in stages so your company might still have the old deadlines.
When changes occur within a company such as changes to the Directors, this should be notified to Companies House within 14 days. These filing deadlines have now been extended to 42 days on a temporary basis until 6th April 2021.
Mortgage charges should be filed within 21 days of the charge being created. This has been extended by 10 days. The filing deadline is now 31 days. This extension is temporary.
